Now taking new patients!
Dr. Peek offers weekly or biweekly therapy and will work with you to determine the best therapeutic approach for you. She draws from many modalities of treatment including the holistic approaches of Lifestyle Psychiatry, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, and Supportive Psychotherapy. In conjunction with the more traditional modalities of therapy, Dr. Peek offers adjunctive therapeutic approaches including Animal-Assisted Therapy and Horticultural Therapy (coming soon!).
Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) is a therapeutic intervention that incorporates animals into therapy. AAT can be used to enhance and complement the benefits of other therapeutic modalities. Goals in AAT can vary and include emotional, social, and physical goals. Dr. Peek incorporates her golden retrievers, Rudy and James, into treatment sessions. A flock of chickens will be here to greet you as well!
Horticultural therapy (HT) involves participating in gardening and plant-based activities to achieve specific therapeutic goals. HT is used to enhance and complement the benefits of other traditional therapeutic modalities. Benefits of HT are numerous and can help participants learn new skills, improve memory, cognitive abilities, task initiation, and socialization.
Mental health conditions can cause sleep problems and sleep problems can increase the risk for mental health conditions and worsen symptoms. Improving sleep has many benefits including a reduction in the use of medication and can contribute to more energy, better performance, improved mood and cognition.
Diet and nutrition can affect the risk for many psychiatric disorders. It can impact mental health through the gut microbiome (the connection between the gut and the brain), and through the impact of individual nutrients.
Physical activity has been shown to help people with depression, anxiety, and other psychiatric disorders. Exercise can improve many psychiatric symptoms, functioning, and help prevent other medical conditions.
Mind-body practices, such as yoga and meditation, have shown benefits in promoting well-being, reducing stress, and as an intervention for a variety of mental health conditions.
